Roy Williams couldn’t blame Jerry Jones, the man who swapped four draft picks to get him, for cutting him loose.

The Dallas Cowboys informed the wide receiver Monday that he will be let go on Thursday, the first day clubs are allowed to release players. He was a colossal trade bust for the Cowboys, walking away with a ton of cash too for minimal production – Williams caught 94 passes for 1,324 yards and 13 touchdowns in 40 games with a star on the side of his helmet.

“It's a business,” Williams told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “I would have done the same thing."

The Cowboys had to clear cap room and Williams didn’t project to be a starter. He was fond of his time with the Cowboys. He’s a Texas native and the club treated him the right way.

“It wasn't even close to what I thought it was going to be," Williams said. "I appreciated the opportunity Mr. Jones gave me.

"I'm still going to play. We will see what happens. My teammates know what I'm capable of. I don't think I'm washed up or done. It didn't work out there. It will work out somewhere."
