The Houston Texans are inclined to hold onto coach Gary Kubiak and hire former Dallas Cowboys coach Wade Phillips as their new defensive coordinator, according to the Houston Chronicle.
Per the report, Texans owner Bob McNair is leaning toward going in that direction unless something bad happens against the Jacksonville Jaguars such as a rout of a loss.
The newspaper characterizes McNair as "angry, disappointed and frustrated" with the Texans' 5-10 win-loss record.
Phillips is a well-respected defensive mind.
Adding him would displace defensive coordinator Frank Bush, a first-time coordinator.
Bush is expected to be fired as well as secondary coach David Gibbs.
The secondary has struggled all season.
Gibbs could be replaced by University of Houston defensive coordinator Brian Stewart.
