After carrying the ball six times for zero gain and catching one pass for eight yards, San Francisco 49ers running back Frank Gore left the Niners' 27-20 win over the New York Giants Sunday late in the second quarter with a knee injury and didn't return, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
"Someone twisted me up," Gore said, the paper reports. "I felt like I could have played."
Gore started to come back onto the field at the start of the first drive of the second half, the Chronicle notes, but then was called back off the field. "It appeared as if a possible pain-killing injection he may have taken to numb his sore ankle was wearing off," according to the Chronicle.
He sprained his right ankle in Week 2 against the Dallas Cowboys and then his left one last weekend against the Washington Redskins.
ProFootballTalk reports that Gore said after the game that the injury was not serious and that coach Jim Harbaugh "expressed confidence after the game that Gore would be fine for next week" when the Niners face the Arizona Cardinals.
