The Dallas Cowboys got a heroic performance from quarterback Tony Romo on September 18 against the San Francisco 49ers. Romo delivered a clutch performance despite injuring his ribs in the game. In leading Dallas to victory, Romo redeemed himself for his terrible flop in the opening week against the New York Jets. But now Romo faces the prospect of missing his next start when the Cowboys host the Washington Redskins on September 26. A possibly punctured or collapsed lung and a fractured rib could keep him out of that game. The Cowboys are also dealing with injuries to Miles Austin and Felix Jones. That puts their offense at a huge disadvantage.

The Cowboys offense has had its struggles so far in 2011. Now they are looking at three of their top players missing a game. Romo is a major upgrade over backup quarterback Jon Kitna. Not only that, but he is a tough football player. Nobody will question that after what he did against the 49ers. The bottom line is that Dallas is not as good a football without him. Washington is a better football team than many thought. The Redskins have won their first two games and will be looking for a 3-0 start and a key division win. If Romo can't go, the Cowboys will be in trouble. Dallas will definitely be without wide receiver Miles Austin due to a hamstring injury and is likely to miss Jones with a shoulder injury. Scoring points won't be easy for this team.

So far Dallas is optimistic about Romo playing. But even if he does it is difficult to imagine that that he will be effective. The adrenaline he had in the San Francisco game is gone now. It won't be easy for him to step out on the field and start from the opening snap. The fact that he might not have Austin or Jones will make things all the more difficult. There is a good chance that the injuries on the Dallas offense could cost them a key win against the Redskins. It is early in the season but it might be a tough hole to climb out of considering the strength of the division.
