By helping themselves, the New York Giants would help some key players for the Dallas Cowboys get some rest this weekend.
If the Giants beat the New York Jets on Saturday, Dallas' chance to clinch the NFC East this week would be gone and the Cowboys would think about resting some important, but injured players, sources told ESPN.
A Giants win would set up a showdown with the Cowboys at the Meadowlands next week with the NFC East title hanging in the balance. In that scenario, the Cowboys could rest linebacker DeMarcus Ware, running back Felix Jones, defensive tackle Jay Ratliff, cornerback Mike Jenkins and wide receiver Laurent Robinson.
A loss by the Giants would enable the Cowboys to clinch the East title by beating the Philadelphia Eagles, which would keep the players in the lineup.
The Cowboys are a game ahead of the Giants in the standings, but lost to them in Dallas earlier this month, giving the Giants the tiebreaker. So, if the Giants win, they can win the division by beating Dallas next week to clinch the tiebreaker, regardless of whether they finish tied in the standings or a game ahead.
