FIVE FREE AGENTS THE DALLAS COWBOYS SHOULD GO AFTER: FAN OPINION

On March 13, 2012, NFL teams can begin signing free agents. The Dallas Cowboys have salary cap space, and owner Jerry Jones is intent on using it. Here are five free agents the Cowboys should go after.

Carl Nicks, #77 Guard, New Orleans Saints

I believe that you cannot have enough offensive linemen on your team. The Cowboys have an opportunity to sign a really good one in Nicks. Nicks was part of one of the best offensive lines in the NFL last season. The Saints gave up the second-fewest sacks in the regular season. Nicks is huge (6'5" and 343 lbs.). At just 26 years of age, Nicks would bolster the Cowboys' offensive line for years to come. He won a Super Bowl with the Saints and he was selected to his second Pro Bowl this season.

Cortland Finnegan, #31 Cornerback, Tennessee Titans

I know he's volatile. He is one of the most disliked players in the NFL. But there's more to Finnegan than his fighting skills. He is a premier cornerback in the league, and he's only 27. The Cowboys desperately need a real cornerback. Finnegan would bring not only cover skills but also nastiness to the secondary.

Eric Wright, #21 Cornerback, Detroit Lions

Wright was solid at cornerback for the Lions this season. He had 73 tackles, 4 interceptions and 16 passes defended. Wright is another true cornerback who could upgrade the Cowboys' secondary.

Ahmad Brooks, #55 Linebacker, San Francisco 49ers

Linebackers Keith Brooking, Bradie James and Anthony Spencer are all unrestricted free agents. It is very possible that none of them will be back. Sean Lee and Bruce Carter are the future at this position for the Cowboys. But they will need to add some depth here. Brooks has improved every year, and this past season was his best (49 tackles, 7 sacks). He could have an even better season playing alongside Cowboys linebacker DeMarcus Ware.

Jason Campbell, #8 Quarterback, Oakland Raiders

With the retirement of Jon Kitna, the Cowboys need to find a backup quarterback for Tony Romo. Campbell has had some bad breaks in the NFL. In 2011, his season was cut short when he broke his collarbone. His passing numbers are not bad. Given the right circumstances, I think Campbell could succeed. If he is available, I hope the Cowboys go after him.

These are five free agents the Cowboys should target. They have the money to spend. I hope they spend it wisely.
