When the Dallas Cowboys put in a waiver claim for Kyle Orton three weeks ago, they did so because Jon Kitna was ailing.
For those who thought the Cowboys were attempting to block the Chicago Bears’ bid to land Orton, think again. Dallas placed Kitna, the veteran backup quarterback, on injured reserve today with a back injury.
The Cowboys promoted wide receiver Dwayne Harris from the practice squad and signed quarterback Chris Greisen to the practice squad. Stephen McGee will serve as the backup to Tony Romo for the remainder of the season.
Greisen made a brief appearance on the Cowboys’ practice squad and 53-man roster last season. He’s appeared in five NFL games in his career, in 1999 and 2000 with the Arizona Cardinals.
