As a child, I refrained from any religious practices, opting instead to worship the Dallas Cowboys. I had a gigantic blow up poster of Troy Aikman that covered my wall and knelt before it every Saturday night, praying for a win. Growing up a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan lead to many reasons for rejoicing, but in recent years has left me with nothing but a bitter aftertaste in my mouth.
#5 Any Quarterback between Troy Aikman and Tony Romo
God incarnate, Mr. Troy Aikman, retired from football in 2000. After his departure, the Cowboys went through numerous lineup changes at quarterback until finally settling on the unpredictable, but oh so loveable, Tony Romo in 2006. Prior to settling on Romo, the list of failed quarterbacks included Quincy Carter, Chad Hutchinson, Vinny Testaverde and Drew Bledsoe, as well as a slew of equally poor backups. This was not a good time to be a fan as these games were not very fun to watch.
#4 Emmitt Smith goes to Arizona
Although this was not directly a Dallas Cowboys play, it greatly affected my heart, as a fan. Mutiny of the highest caliber. At least he was not traded to a team in the same division. I could not imagine how I would of reacted if I had seen him in an Eagles uniform.
#3 Wade Phillips
For reasons related to the play in the number one spot, the fiery Bill Parcells decided to leave Dallas which left a vacant slot for head coach. Jerry Jones thought it wise to give the job to defensive coordinator, Wade Phillips. He was fired mid season in 2010 after a horrendous 1 - 7 start.
#2 Michael Irvin Breaks his Neck
People often ask me why I have such a visceral dislike for the Philadelphia Eagles. I tell them to look at this play. During the fifth game of the 1999 season, Micheal Irvin's career ended after a rough tackle, going neck head first into the artificial turf. The fans from Philadelphia responded by cheering as he was being carted off in a neck brace. Disgusting.
#1 The Botched Snap
January 6, 2007. A day that will end in infamy. The Cowboys need a field goal to win their first playoff game in 10 years. The snap! Romo fumbles! Romo fumbles! It is moments like these that make you question how healthy being a sports fanatic is to your overall health and well being.
